Illinois Democratic Women Announces New Officers

SPRINGFIELD, IL— As the 2010 midterm election begins to heat up in the state, Illinois Democratic Women (IDW) announced their new board members Monday to lead the organization through the next election cycle.  In an alteration of their bylaws, the organization created a co-presidency that is now held by Retired Col. Jill Morgenthaler and Pam Monetti.

“I am honored to be asked to work with Pam and the other board members to mobilize women voters as well as help elect more women to office,” said Morgenthaler.  “As a former candidate myself, I understand the demands on women candidates and hope to lend that experience and knowledge to the great women candidates we have running this year and the years to follow.”

At the annual convention and membership meeting, Illinois Democratic Women amended their bylaws to allow for a co-presidency and elected new officers.  This dual presidency will allow the organization to cater to the needs of the entire state as well as enabling it to initiate new programming and campaign efforts.

The 2010-2011 IDW Board includes:

  • Co-Presidents:             Pam Monetti and Jill Morgenthaler
  • 1st Vice President:       Jamie Crain
  • 2nd Vice President:      Sandy Klein
  • Secretary:                    Tammi Zumwalt
  • Treasurer:                    Barbara Mason
  • Membership Chair:      Laura Fletcher

“Democrats have a lot at stake this year and Illinois Democratic Women wants to do everything possible to help our elected officials and candidates win this November,” said Monetti.  “IDW will play an integral part in the upcoming election by focusing our efforts on supporting competitive races across the state as well as giving activists the tools they need to help Democrats win in 2010.”

Once known as the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Illinois Democratic Women is a statewide organization founded in 1971.  IDW is a grassroots organization working for more equitable representation and participation of Democrat women in all levels of the Democratic Party and government.
