Women In Government Forum July 12

The Honorable Lt. Governor Sheila Simon wil be the guest speaker and former Senate candidate Cheryle Jackson will be the keynote speaker for “Women In Government Forum,” Thursday, July 12 at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles from 6 to 9 p.m.

The first part of the program will focus on women’s issues and women in government, followed by a showing of the movie, Iron Jawed Angels. Following will

be a discussion on the suffrage movement and today’s war on women.

Only 17 percent of Congress are women, and much less at the state and local l

evels. We need to change that in November.

Come help support the nearly 13 women candidates running for office in Kane County. Let’s get them elected.

Check our Facebook page and let us know if you’ll be there.

  1. Donna Griffin-Lego says:

I will be there and am looking for someone to bring with.

  2. Thomas K. Johnson says:

My wife and I arrived just before Cheryle Jackson began speaking, so we missed the earlier speakers. Therefore, we do not know if anything was said about the message that was projected on the screen behind all of the speakers:
“Kane City [sic] Women In Government Wecome [sic] Lieutenant Gov.Sheila Simon.”

I count two errors in ten words.
There is no “Kane City” as far as I know. And “Welcome” has an “l” in it.

Regardless of gender or political affiliation, we all must expect office holders, candidates and their supporters to be competent communicators. Voters have a right to demand competence from elected officials. I don’t know who was responsible for the “Wecome” message above, but I was baffled as to why it was projected right up until the movie began.

Such blunders make it difficult to take this group seriously.
